Causes of Acne & Scarring

There are many causes of acne. Acne can form on the skin due to genetics, eating certain foods, or even stress. Acne results from bacteria trapped in clogged pores, usually blocked by excess sebum (oil) and dead skin cells. The pimple can become inflamed after enough bacteria has grown inside the pore. Acne comes in three main types: comedonal, inflammatory, and nodulocystic. It can appear in many forms, such as blackheads, whiteheads, pustules, and papules.

Scars form part of the body’s healing process after skin damage or trauma. The chance of scar formation is minimized when the correct care is given to these wounds. Acne scars occur when acne pustules are popped instead of being given proper treatment. There are three types of acne scars: hypertrophic, atrophic, and keloid. Atrophic scars can be categorized as ice-pick, rolling, or boxcar scars.

Whatever the cause of your acne and scarring, treatment options are available at Refresh Palm Beach Medical Aesthetics.

Should I Have My Acne & Scarring Professionally Treated?

In many cases, professional treatment is necessary to address acne and scarring. Suppose acne is painful or keeps coming back. In that case, it may be best to come in for a professional diagnosis and a recommendation of treatment options, such as injectable fillers, laser, microneedling, or chemical peels for related skin issues.

An acne outbreak can also lead to multiple scars that can imprint on the face. Mild acne scars may go away independently, but harsh acne scars often require treatment. Mild, moderate, and severe scars require different types of treatment. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your skin due to scarring, it is best to arrange a consultation.

Our HydraFacial for Florida clients utilize a specialized wand to deliver comprehensive exfoliation, hydration, extraction, and nourishing serums. This innovative approach effectively targets acne, reduces scars, and enhances overall skin appearance.

Chemical Peels:

Chemical peels are acid-based solutions that permeate skin layers. After damaged skin cells are exfoliated, new undamaged skin cells appear. This reduces the appearance of scars. To treat acne, chemical peels destroy acne-causing bacteria, unclog pores, reduce the amount of oil in the skin, and lessen inflammation.

Microneedling:

This acne-scar treatment stimulates the skin’s healing response by creating tiny micro-injuries through tissue injectables. New collagen protein is made, fading the targeted scars and acne scars.

PRP:

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is an injectable created using a sample of the patient’s blood. By injecting this combination of concentrated platelets and plasma into a scar, growth factors are delivered to the area, resulting in new volume and smoothness.

Microneedling with PRP:

The combination of microneedling and platelet-rich plasma provides enhanced reduction of scars and acne scars. The microscopic holes in the skin tissues allow for greater penetration of platelet-rich plasma, resulting in improved healing on a deeper level.

Fraxel:

Fraxel is a laser scar treatment targeting numerous small skin sections. By leaving the surrounding skin undamaged, the healing rate is much faster. The energy from this laser removes damaged skin cells and encourages the production of new collagen and skin cells.
